About Mark Grossman
My name is Mark Grossman. I’ve spent more than 35 years working in construction and 28 years in the restoration and insurance claims industry.
I started working in construction when I was about 15 years old, learning the trades from the ground up. Over the years I’ve worked across nearly every part of residential construction and reconstruction — roofing, siding, framing, masonry, drywall, finish carpentry, flooring, plumbing, electrical, kitchens, bathrooms, and full renovations.
This experience didn’t come from reading about construction or studying theory. It came from physically doing the work, making mistakes early on, learning from them, and repeating the process thousands of times until the work was done correctly.
Understanding how homes are actually built and rebuilt is critical when evaluating property damage insurance claims, because many claim outcomes depend on understanding the true scope and cost required to restore a damaged property.
Hands-On Construction Experience
Throughout my career I’ve worked on thousands of construction and reconstruction projects, including new construction, major renovations, and rebuilding homes after property damage.
During my years working in restoration and insurance reconstruction, I also designed and built more than 1,500 kitchens, along with thousands of bathrooms, basements, roofs, and structural repairs.
Working on that many projects gives you a practical understanding of how homes are actually built — the materials involved, the sequencing of work, and the real costs required to complete repairs correctly.
That experience becomes especially important when evaluating insurance claims, where understanding the true cost and scope of reconstruction determines how accurately a claim is handled.
Restoration & Mitigation Experience
For the past 28 years, I’ve worked directly in the restoration and insurance claims industry.
My experience includes the full range of mitigation and restoration work involved in property damage losses. I’ve personally performed field work including:
• water extraction
• demolition and debris removal
• structural drying
• pack-outs and contents handling
• reconstruction following fire, water, and storm losses
Over the years I’ve handled everything from small residential water losses to major commercial damage events.
I’ve also been responsible for estimating projects, coordinating reconstruction work, managing restoration crews, and training personnel in mitigation procedures and estimating systems.
Because of that background, I understand every phase of a loss — from initial mitigation and documentation all the way through reconstruction and claim resolution.
Estimating & Project Management
Throughout my career I’ve written and reviewed thousands of reconstruction estimates and managed projects ranging from residential homes to large commercial buildings.
My work has included evaluating damage, determining reconstruction scope, writing detailed estimates, negotiating project costs, and coordinating repairs with contractors and insurance carriers.
That experience allows me to explain the insurance claim process in a way that connects construction reality with how insurance companies evaluate claims.
Areas of Claim Expertise
My experience includes evaluating and working on claims involving:
• Fire damage insurance claims
• Water damage restoration claims
• Smoke and soot contamination losses
• Mitigation and restoration procedures
• Insurance estimating and reconstruction scope
• Coverage limits, depreciation, and claim settlement mechanics
These are the types of issues homeowners often face after a loss but rarely understand until they are already navigating the claim process.
Author of Filing an Insurance Claim
I am also the author of the guide “Filing an Insurance Claim – A Definitive Guide to Maximizing Savings.”
The book was originally published under the pen name Logan Dory. While the guide was released under that name, I am the author of the work and the material reflects my experience in construction, restoration, and insurance claims.
Why I Created ClaimHelpMe.com
After decades working in construction and restoration, I saw the same problem happen repeatedly.
Most homeowners only begin learning how insurance claims actually work after a loss has already happened.
By that point they are often dealing with stress, major repairs, and a process they may have never encountered before.
ClaimHelpMe.com was created to change that.
The platform provides educational claim guides designed to explain:
• how insurance claims are evaluated
• how reconstruction estimates are written
• how documentation affects claim settlements
• how depreciation and coverage limits work
• what homeowners should understand before a loss ever occurs
The goal is simple:
to explain the mechanics of property insurance claims so homeowners can better understand the process.
